In October of 2007, Teresa participated in an Ordination and Impartation ceremony for about 100 native-indian church-plant pastors with a ministry called India Christian Mission (ICM). These men were commissioned both as pastors and as evangelists, and they were sent to cities and villages that did not have any churches. Their commission was to preach the gospel and plant churches from new converts. Most of them were given 3 to 5 different cities/villeges to work in simultaneously, spending 1 to 2 days per week in each location. These pastors have been laboring very diligently in "rough" conditions for over a year. Most of them have already planted one to three chruches, and as you can imagine, they are working very hard to pastor their new converts and spead the gospel.
They are in need of spiritual refreshment, and in need of additoinal training and equipping. So, Teresa has been asked to come back to India in November of 2008 to minister to these pastors, as well as to the over 800 other ICM pastors.
At first Teresa did not intend to do this for two reasons--she had another minstry commitment (Brazil) at that time. Also, her India last trip had been very difficult for her (phyusicaly and emotionally) and she told the Lord that she didn't want to go back to India for a while. Of course, you should never tell the Lord that you don't want to do something, because that will often be one of the first things He asks you to do. ICM leadership asked Teresa to pray about whether or not God wanted her to come in 2008. She did so, expecting God to say "no." But to her surprise, God told her to go. He also worked behind the scenes to reschedule the Brazil Conference to 2009, so that it would not be a date conflict with India. God also did a work in Teresa to change her heart/desire so that now she is looking forward to ministering in India. If you would like to read the story of how God did that, click here.
Teresa is fund raising for her airfare and a few other expenses related to this trip. Her primary purpose will be to equip the church planters, pastors and worship leaders--the ones who are leading thousands of Indians to the Lord each year. Teresa will also be involved in some evangelistical outreaches.
While November seems far away, her airfare had to be purchased in August
and put on GodSpeak's credit card. With the rising fuel prices, airfare
from San Francisco to India is very expensive. Teresa needs to raise $5000
for this trip. So far, about $1800 has come in towads that expense.
