The prophetic is much more than simply recognizing and repeating supernatural revelation and speaking for God. God puts those who He calls to the prophetic through a rigorous training that includes character development, spiritual maturity, increased intimacy with God and (of course) learning to be accurate as God's spokesperson.
When we develop our prophetic gifting, we must develop our spiritual life, character, hearing skills and delivery skills. This teaching series covers these areas because God is looking for well-rounded prophetic people who have allowed Him to refine their character and grown them in their personal walk with God.
In particular it will cover the following.
God's character refinement will usually involve "desert experiences" -- we go through seasons when our walk with God "feels" dryer or more carnal. God brings us into the desert when He wants to develop faith or when He works on a character issue. God's refinement is not a fun process, but it is an important and necessary part of learning to move effectively in the prophetic.
Just how must is a prophetic person expected to know? How much supernatural revelation does God release to them? When are they expected to know specific details about what is going on in the world around them, or what will take place in the near future? Some people expect prophets to "know everything." Is that valid?
Scripture gives us a solid foundation regarding when and why God gives supernatural revelation. We will study in in this series.
If you are a prophetic person, then you act as a spokesperson for God. As such, God expects you to share His heart and emotions along with His message. That means you must learn to 1) clearly recognize the message that God wants delivered and 2) deliver it in a manner that is consistent with God's mind, heart, intent and character.
The prophetic is more than just "the message." It is also the delivery style, or how that message is presented. If we use a wrong delivery style, it can taint the message or cause it to be misunderstood. Much more goes into a message than just the words that are spoken. There are also many non-verbal queues, such as our gestures and tone of voice. Delivery style is important because the way we say God's words effects how the message us received and understod. We must reflect God's message in every aspect of our delivery.
God also looks at our motivation. He wants us to have His heart when delivering His word. We must have a right motivation when we speak for God. This is so important to Him that He will spend a fair amount of time examining and refining our motivations. This becomes especially important when He gives us a difficult message to deliver, such as a word of warning, correction, rebuke or judgment. So we will take a look at adjusting our motivations so that God can use us to deliver those types of words. We will also look at the difference between correction, rebuke and judgement and try to better understand when and how God might choose to have a prophet deliver that type of message.
